2026 IS "THE YEAR OF MERCURY"

FROM an astrological viewpoint, the Year 2026 is ushering in an opportunity to enhance these areas of our lives: Mind. Communication. Intellect. Reason. Language. Intelligence.

According to a rather obscure astrological text called the "Galendarjum Oeconomicum Practicum Perpetuum," the Year 2026 is the "Year of Mercury."

The Year 2022 was the "Year of Jupiter" and 2023 it was Mars's turn to take over, then 2024 was the "Year of the Sun." That was followed by 2025 the "Year of Venus."

While political upheaval and emotional turmoil were the themes of 2024 and 2025, Mercury ushers in a year of verbal and mental gymnastics in 2026 ... remember that Mercury-Hermes is the Classical god of rogues, thieves and con-men ... as well as of commerce, communications and travel.

Of major importance during this Year of Mercury will be the three RETROGRADE MERCURY periods when Mercury appears to go "backwards" (as seen from the Earth) for about three weeks.

Here are the three Mercury Retrograde periods in 2026:

• February 26th to March 20th 2026
• June 29th to July 23rd 2026
• October 24th to November 13th 2026

Mercury is the planetary ruler of Gemini and Virgo, so if you were born under those signs, then 2026 is your year. But all of the signs benefit from Mercury's cunning and slyness during this year. Here are a few pointers:

On Thursday, Retrograde Saturn backs out of airy Aquarius and re-enters its home sign of Capricorn, where it had languished from December 19, 2017, to March 21, 2020, before entering Aquarius. Now, on July 1, 2020, Retrograde Saturn re-enters Capricorn, finally leaving the sign of the goat for good on December 17, 2020. Saturn takes about 28-29 years to come full circle, and thus spends on average close to two-and-a-half years in a sign. When Saturn is in Capricorn we all begin a new cycle and chapter altogether, both individually and collectively. Capricorn is a no frills sign and deals with power, business and structure. Saturn here is concerned with security and structure, tradition, organization, big business and defense. If left unchecked, big business can become the new Gods of the Universe as Saturn moves through this sign. Saturn in Capricorn can denote great wealth but also great limitations. Saturn was in Capricorn during the worst part of the Great Depression in the early 1930s. The rich got richer, and the poor got poorer. The last transit of Saturn in Capricorn was from February 15, 1988 until February 5, 1991. Before that it was January of 1959-January of 1962, and December 1929-November 1932. While in Capricorn, Saturn will build things that are meant to inspire respect (or intimidation) as much as anything else. The Berlin wall for example, began construction under a Jupiter-Saturn conjunction (August 31, 1961). It was meant to be a political symbol to keep some people in their place. We will experience another Jupiter /Saturn conjunction in 2020, heralding an important new cycle.
