NEW SAINTS OF ANTINOUS FOR 2026

NEW saints of Antinous were announced by the Hollywood Temple of Antinous tonight during Foundation Day ceremonies shared globally with worshipers from around the world via Zoom.

Foundation Day commemorates the founding of the city of Antinoopolis by Emperor Hadrian on 30 October 130 AD on the shores of the Nile where Antinous had died a few days earlier.

That was 1,896 years ago, and Foundation Day marks the beginning of our liturgical calendar ... Happy New Year 1896!

After weeks of deliberations, FLAMEN ANTONIUS SUBIA announced the following New Year's List of SAINTS OF ANTINOUS for the new liturgical year.

SAINTS OF ANTINOUS

LESLIE FEINBERG was an American butch lesbian, LGBTQ+ rights activist, and the author of Stone Butch Blues, frequently considered an essential work for the LGBTQ+ community and labor organizers. She died on November 15, 2014.

GUY HOCQUENGHEM was a French writer, philosopher, and gay liberation theorist. Hocquenghem's 1972 book "Homosexual Desire" is today considered the founding text of queer theory. Hocquenghem also wrote works including "The Wrath of the Lamb," an experiment in millenarian and apocalyptic narrative; "The Atomic Heart," written in response to his deteriorating health and espousing a philosophy of dandyism, gnosticism, and Epicureanism; and Eve, a narrative combining the story of Genesis with a description of changes to his body from AIDS-related symptoms. He died from AIDS-related complications on August 28, 1988.

DAAYIEE ABDULLAH was an American Imam, scholar, and activist. Daayiee Abdullah was, after the murder of Saint Muhsin Hendricks and until his own death on August 3, 2025, one of only five openly gay Imams in the world and the first openly gay Imam in America. In 1979, he was a coordinator for the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. In 2011, Abdullah created an LGBTQ-friendly mosque in Washington D.C, called Masjid Nur Al-Isslaah ("Mosque for Enlightenment and Reformation"), and, in 2015, he founded the Mecca Institute, a self-described "inclusive and progressive" Islamic seminary.

ABU NUWAS was a gay classical Arabic poet, a Muslim mystic, and the foremost representative of the muhdath poetry that developed during the Abbasid Caliphate. His lyric poetry, which is mostly homoerotic, ridiculed heterosexual propriety and the condemnation of homosexuality. He earned the favour of the Abbasid caliphs Harun al-Rashid, who allegedly had a homosexual relationship with Jaʿfar the Barmakid, and his successor, Al-Amin, who fell madly in love with a male slave named Kauthar. Abu Nuwas died in 814 in Baghdad. He (like Harun) also features as a character in a number of stories in One Thousand and One Nights. In 2007, the Abu Nawas Association, which aims to decriminalise homosexuality in Algeria, was founded.

DAVID McREYNOLDS was a prominent American peace activist. Called a hero of the anti-war movement, David McReynolds was a staff member with the War Resisters League for 40 years and was twice a candidate for President of the United States, running on the Socialist Party USA ticket in 1980 and 2000. He was America's first openly gay presidential candidate and, in 1958, one of the first gay candidates to run for Congress. McReynolds died on August 17, 2018.

JOSÉ PÉREZ OCAÑA was a Spanish gay performing artist, painter, and LGBTQ+ rights activist. A central figure in Barcelona's counterculture during the Spanish transition to democracy and standing out as an icon of opposition to Francoism and its social conventions, his artistic endeavors are considered pioneering sexual and gender disobedience practices. He died on September 18, 1983.

AMELIO ROBLES ÁVILA was colonel during the Mexican Revolution who lived openly as queer and a transgender man from the age of 24 until his death at age 95 on December 9, 1984. He insisted on being treated as a man, sticking his gun in the face of individuals who misgendered him until they acknowledged him as such. In 1970, he became the first person assigned female at birth to be recognized as a male veteran by the Mexican government.

MARIE EQUI was an American lesbian, anti-war activist, and medical doctor who devoted herself to treating working-class and poor patients and regularly provided birth control and abortions at a time when both were illegal. She became a political activist and advocated for women's suffrage, an eight-hour workday, and the right to free speech. She died on July 13, 1952. In August 2019, Equi was inducted into the Rainbow Honor Walk in San Francisco’s Castro neighborhood which notes LGBTQ+ people who have "made significant contributions in their fields."

JUNIPER BLESSING (September 22, 2006 - May 10th, 2026) was a talented 19-year-old transgender woman, artist, and atmospheric science student whose life was cut tragically short. Born in Princeton, New Jersey, and raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico, she graduated from the New Mexico School for the Arts as a gifted vocalist with a magnificent five-octave range before attending the University of Washington in Seattle. Remembered by her loved ones as a uniquely compassionate, brilliant, and fiercely loyal individual who was "pure love." On the evening of May 10th 2026 she was stabbed to death more than 40 times in the basement laundry room of her student housing building. While police determined there was no evidence of a hate crime, and believe the murderer, who turned himself in three days later, to have schizophrenia and mental psychosis, the extreme violence of her death suggests that hatred was involved. Her sudden and violent death sparked profound grief and community memorials across the country.

ALEXANDER VON HUMBOLDT (14 September 1769 - 6 May 1859 ) was a visionary Prussian polymath, naturalist, and explorer whose monumental work laid the foundations for modern geography, ecology, and meteorology. Traveling extensively through the Americas and Central Asia, he pioneered a holistic view of nature as a single, interconnected global force ... an insight that profoundly shaped the development of environmental science. Humboldt was also a deeply empathetic humanitarian who fiercely condemned colonialism and slavery wherever he traveled. While his public life was defined by scientific triumph, his private letters and lifelong, deeply affectionate partnerships with men, including the soldier Reinhard von Haeften, reveal that he was gay, living out his intense emotional and romantic attachments entirely within a close-knit circle of male companions.

PETER GEORGE DOYLE (June 3, 1843 - April 19, 1907 ) was an Irish-born American transit worker best remembered as the longtime romantic companion, muse, and lover of poet Walt Whitman. Born in Limerick, Ireland, Doyle emigrated to the United States as a child and later served in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War, during which he was wounded at Antietam and briefly imprisoned. In 1865, while working as a 21-year-old streetcar conductor in Washington, D.C., he met the 45-year-old Whitman on a stormy winter night, sparking an immediate, profound intimacy that spanned nearly thirty years. Doyle’s working-class background and youthful energy deeply inspired Whitman’s poetry, positioning him as the primary muse for the homoerotic "Calamus" poems in Leaves of Grass. He faithfully nursed Whitman after the poet suffered a debilitating stroke in 1873, and though Whitman's subsequent relocation to New Jersey restricted their daily contact, the two maintained an impassioned correspondence until Whitman's death in 1892. Doyle spent his later years working for the Pennsylvania Railroad, and his preservation of Whitman's affection-filled letters ... later published as Calamus in 1897 ... provided invaluable, historic insight into the true emotional and sexual nature of America's foundational poet.

ERISHKEGAL GIANNA (GIA) BATHORY-VON ECSED (Born: December 30, 1980 - Died: December 22, 2023) was a civil rights, LGBTQ rights and Pagan rights activist who championed Gay, lesbian and trans rights for 30+ years and was one of the founding forces behind the Human Rights Campaign, the Kentucky Fairness Alliance and who spent her life supporting local LGBTQ communities until her death in 2023. She was the founder and Archpriestess of the Temple of Great Mother, America's first and only traditional pagan Temple. Trained in the Pythian Oracular tradition, as well as various forms of occult practices, she moved through the circles of the Ordo Templi Orientis, the Ordo Hermetica and was a devoted Maenad of Dionysus who reinstated the seasonal Bacchanalias, staged the Wild Hunts and Dionesuke celebrations in America, through her tireless campaigning to undo hundreds of years of misinformation and propaganda around the worship of Dionysus. She was a fierce defender of the Dionysian path, dedicating her life to the study, practice and worship of the God of transformation, liberation and ecstasy. She engaged in the walk of Elusis, entered the Mysteries of both Demeter and Persephone, as well as spending her life in the Mysteries of Dionysus. Her legacy is carried on by her Sister Christine and her Brother Cesare. She was much loved and adored by those closest to her. Her spirit now rests in the lap of the God she so beloved in life. We hope in her death she will receive the peace, love and comfort she was so often not afforded in life. Thank you for your consideration in placing her among those who devoted their lives to Antinuous-Dionysus-Bacchus. We truly feel this is a fitting final role for her.

T.E. LAWRENCE (August 16, 1888 - May 19, 1935), widely known as Lawrence of Arabia, was a British Army officer, archaeologist, diplomat, and writer. During his pre-WWI archaeological work in Carchemish, Lawrence formed an intense, close bond with an adolescent Arab water boy named Dahoum, to whom he dedicated his autobiographical book "Seven Pillars of Wisdom," which includes vivid, emotionally charged, and homoerotic passages about male bonding in the desert, contributing to long-standing speculation about his inner life.

DOLLY PARTON (January 19, 1946 - August 25, 2026) was an iconic American singer-songwriter, actress, philanthropist, and businesswoman known as the "Queen of Country."  was a longtime, vocal ally and icon for the LGBTQ+ community, consistently championing acceptance, kindness, and equal rights throughout her career.

WILLEM ARONDEUS (22 August 1894 – 1 July 1943) a Dutch gay non-Jewish artist and writer who led a group in bombing the Amsterdam Public Records Office in order to hinder the Nazi round-up of Jews, was executed with 12 others by firing squad. "Let it be known that homosexuals are not cowards," were his final words.

FRIEDRICH ALFRED KRUPP  (July 17, 1787 - October 8, 1826) was the wealthiest industrialist in Germany. He died at his castle outside Essen. The official cause was a cerebral hemorrhage. The cause everyone in Berlin understood was something else.  For four years, Krupp had spent his winters at the Hotel Quisisana on the Italian island of Capri, where he hosted long elaborate parties for local Italian fishermen and boys at a private grotto on the cliff below the hotel. Italian socialist newspapers had begun naming him that fall.  His wife Margarethe had already gone to the Kaiser in October, asking him to intervene. The Kaiser had her committed to an asylum instead. Then on November 15, the German Social Democratic paper Vorwärts ran the full story. Krupp was the sole heir to the largest armaments fortune in Europe. He was dead within a week. Rumors began immediately and have never gone away.  Kaiser Wilhelm II attended the funeral personally and denounced "the lying press."

AGENOR DE MIRANDA ARAÚJO NETO, known as Cazuza (April 4, 1958 - July 7, 1990) was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and poet whose rebellious spirit and emotional honesty made him one of the defining voices of Brazilian rock. Through songs such as Exagerado and O Tempo Não Para, he challenged social conventions and expressed a fierce commitment to personal freedom. His openness about his sexuality and his decision to speak publicly as a major celebrity living with HIV helped confront prejudice during the AIDS crisis. He died at 32, leaving a lasting legacy of artistic freedom and LGBTQIA+ visibility.

RENATO MANFREDINI JÚNIOR, known as Renato Russo (March 27, 1960 - October 11, 1996) was lead singer and principal songwriter of Legião Urbana, one of Brazil’s most influential rock bands. An openly gay artist, he gave voice to love, loneliness, identity, and social alienation, reaching millions of listeners across generations. Songs such as Meninos e Meninas offered an important point of recognition for young LGBTQIA+ people growing up in a society where homosexuality remained heavily stigmatized. He died at 36, leaving a musical legacy that continues to affirm the dignity of those who live and love outside conventional expectations.

CÁSSIA REJANE ELLER, known as Cássia Eller (December 10, 1962 - December 29, 2001) was a celebrated Brazilian singer whose powerful voice and unconventional stage presence made her one of the country’s most distinctive musical artists. She lived openly with her female partner, Maria Eugênia Vieira Martins, and their family became a landmark in public discussions about same-sex parenting and legal recognition of LGBTQIA+ families. After Cássia’s death, Maria Eugênia’s fight to retain custody of Cássia’s son brought national attention to the rights of same-sex partners and families. Cássia remains an enduring symbol of authenticity, lesbian visibility, and the right to love and build a family openly.

THE FOUNDING OF ANTINOOPOLIS

ON this day we commemorate the founding of the Sacred City of Antinous, the glorious city of ANTINOOPOLIS in Egypt as it originally was called and later Ansena and Antinoé.

Our Lord Hadrian Augustus, Emperor of Rome, Pontifex Maximus, the New Jupiter, Hercules reborn, consecrated the shore of the Nile where Antinous fell, and solemnly founded the Holy City of Antinoopolis in Egypt in the year 130 AD
.

Antinous had risen again from the depths of Tartarus, he had conquered death and returned to the place of the living.

By Victory and Proclamation, Antinous was elevated to godliness, and the ancient religion of Our God was set in motion.

The Priesthood of Antinous was ordained, sacred statues and images proliferated, and Temples rose up in every corner of the world, for the glory of Antinous the God.

We exalt in the deification of Antinous, and marvel at his assumption into heaven.

On this day we concelebrate the Foundation of Antinoopolis by re-founding the sacred city within our hearts, declaring ourselves the New Stones of Antinoopolis.

With love for Antinous in our hearts, the New Temple of Antinous was founded in 2002, called Ecclesia Antinoi, and the New Priesthood of Antinous initiated.

We recognize the Foundation of Antinoopolis as the first day of the New and Holy Year of Religion of Antinous.

ASTRO FORECAST: OCTOBER 29th—NOVEMBER 8th, 2026

Antinous is a Moon God. He is, of course, many other things and he wears many hats. But one of the ways he was worshiped in Antiquity was as ANTINOUS THE MOON GOD.

His worshipers looked skyward and saw His beautiful face perpetually turned towards the Earth. The Man in the Moon was actually the Blessed Boy in the Moon for the ancient priests and worshipers of Antinous. Swiftest and most youthful of all the Zodiacal deities, Antinous speeds through an entire year's worth of Astrological signs in just 28 days.

ANTINOUS THE MOON GOD represents our deepest personal needs, our basic habits and reactions, and our unconscious gay selves. Where Hadrian the Sun acts, Antinous the Moon REACTS. How do we instinctively react or respond to problems? What do we feel we need for a sense of security? Look to ANTINOUS THE MOON GOD for answers.

ANTINOUS THE MOON GOD is both our inner boy child and our inner lover. His ever changing phases, as he sweeps past all the other Planets in all the Signs, make us at turns responsive, receptive, and reflective. Eternally youthful, ANTINOUS THE MOON GOD represents our childlike spontaneous and instinctual reactions.

ANTINOUS THE MOON GOD beams down on us to make us imaginative, creative, intuitive, sentimental, adaptable, introspective, and protective. On the negative side, and depending on where he is in the Zodiac, he can make us moody, restless, and irrational.

OCTOBER 29th to NOVEMBER 8th, 2026

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29th, 2026

Do you have a broken heart? This week healing energies get a sudden and dramatic boost when Venus is in opposition to CHIRON IN TAURUS. Venus and Chiron will help you create a positive and expansive outlook, which can benefit your well-being at this time. You may be more open-minded with regard to experiencing new things, which will allow healing of your mind, body, and spirit. For instance, you could seek higher understanding and meaning in your life through a guide, mentor, or spiritual person or increase your inner knowledge by means of educational processes, religion, or meditative practices during this period. An urge to travel to far-away places (real or imaginary) may also be experienced. You may discover new perspectives on your beliefs, faith, and sense of hope. Restoring peace and harmony in your personal life and relationships is possible now through your interest in healing your own wounds, as well as extending compassion and generosity to others.

FRI-SATURDAY, OCTOBER 30th-31st, 2026

This weekend, Mercury is at right angles to Mars. Some astrologers say this is when people sharpen their swords, but we prefer to say it is when people sharpen their tongues to use as weapons! Remember that lovely line from "The Importance of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde (who is a Saint of Antinous, by the way): "On an occasion of this kind it becomes more than a moral duty to speak one's mind. It becomes a pleasure." This is an aspect which encourages people to say vicious and intentionally hurtful things. People are overly persnickety and bitchy and downright mean. You'll be amazed how true this is.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1st, 2026

This weekend, we come to the Leo Third Quarter Moon, which is called the BACCHANALIA MOON in Antinous Moon Magic for its gifts of transcendence ... This Lunar Phase reflects those festivals of peering into other worlds and states of being ... a restless time of high-spirited indulgence, sometimes fun, sometimes slightly scary and always capable of unleashing powerful spirits ... On a mundane level, it refers to putting on a disguise and "having a good time". On a spiritual level, it refers to entering an altered state to commune with the divine, thus this Lunar Phase is the best time of the year for trance visions.

MON-THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2nd-5th, 2026

This week, your brain is ablaze with often confusing and conflicting ideas when Retrograde Mercury aligns with the Sun. Old astrology texts dating back to Ancient Rome call this a potentially hazardous time, and speak of a "Scorched Mercury" which impairs communications and judgement. But in ANTINOUS MOON MAGIC, we see that very differently. This Sun/Mercury conjunction is indeed intense, but in a positive way. Antinous/Mercury focuses the gay spiritual light of his heavenly father Ra-Herakhte right at you. Open your spiritual heart to the light and joy and permit it to burn away all doubt and all fear and trepidation. Most people live in spiritual darkness. They are like people who live in caves and are afraid of sunlight because it hurts their eyes. But should we shun the light and stay in the cave with them? Antinous/Mercury says it's safe to open your spiritual eyes — and spiritual heart — and become accustomed to the light.

FRI-SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 6-7th, 2026

This weekend, you will want to watch out for excesses in eating, drinking, spending money and falling in love when indulgent Venus forms an expansive sextile aspect with exaggeration-prone Jupiter. If you are a latent shopoholic, this is the one week of the year where you will max out on your addiction ... while maxing out on your credit card. This is a good day for smooth-talking gigolos who pay fanciful compliments to you ... and you find yourself actually believing them ... And why not? Is that such a bad thing? Why not enjoy the fantasy as long as it lasts ... and as long as you know it's a fantasy?

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8th, 2026

Overnight Sunday-Monday, we come to the SCORPIO NEW MOON. In Antinous Moon Magic this lunar phase is called the ZELUS MOON of fear, angst and anxiety ... and using Antinous Moon Magic to triumph over fear.

SNEAK PREVIEW OF NEXT WEEK:

Another exciting week lies ahead between November 9th and 15th, 2026, when we come to the Aquarius First Quarter Moon ... the Lunar Phase in Antinous Moon Magic which we call the altruistic and magnanimous CONCORDIA MOON ... the perfect night for laying enmity and strife to rest ... and open your heart to healing love ... More details next time ....

HOMOPHOBIA MARTYRS REMEMBERED
ON ANNIVERSARY OF DEATH OF ANTINOUS

ANTINOUS worshipers on three continents tonight took part in a global candlelight vigil in memory of martyr victims of homophobia.

The vigil drew Zoom participants from across the United States, as well as from South America and Europe. The ceremonies coincided with the October 28 observance of the Death of Antinous on that date in the year 130 AD.

At the Hollywood Temple of Antinous, the founder of the modern religion of Antinous, ANTONIUS SUBIA, related the true-life story of how Antinous drowned in the Nile at the end of October in the year 130 AD, and how Hadrian proclaimed him the last deity of the Classical Era.

Priest HERNESTUS, participating from Germany, solemnly read out the names of martyr saints ... and linked them to the tragic death of Antinous.

With a quavering voice, Hernestus paused from time to time to remark on individuals whose names were on the list.

He also honoured hundreds of victims of homophobic attacks around the world.

Antonius noted that the list of names represents only the tip of the iceberg ... and only one 12-month period. Countless thousands more suffer and are murdered on a daily basis around the world.

On October 28th we commemorate the death of Antinous and his descent into the Underworld.

"Antinous passes out of the world of the living tonight and enters the Underworld, where he hears the names of all these people and gathers them to him and embraces them and saves them from oblivion," Antonius told worshipers.

"I pray to Antinous to watch over them, now as his divine spirit sinks down into the place of the dead ... and when he returns, that he will bring for hope again, that these deaths will stop," Antonius said. "This is what I wish for."

On October 30th, another international interactive online ceremony will be held consecrating newly nominated saints of Antinous for 2026 and also ritually celebrating the return of Antinous from the Underworld and the establishment of the city of   ANTINOOPOLIS by Emperor Hadrian on that date in 130 AD.

ANTINOUS IN THE UNDERWORLD

ANTINOUS is dead. Hadrian is weeping over his limp body on the banks of the Nile where his beloved perished in late October of the year 130 AD.

While mourners wail in the world of the living, Antinous descends into the Underworld. The modern Religion of Antinous commemorates this descent into the Egyptian Duat on October 29th.

Flamen Antonius Subia says:

Antinous is embraced by Osiris beneath the water of the Holy Nile, and he is given over to Hermes-Anubis and led into the underworld.

He appears before the Lords of the scale of Maat, but his spirit is divine and the scales crumble at his touch.

Hermes-Anubis escorts Antinous into the Hall of the Queen of the Dead, Persephone, and because he is a witness of the Mysteries of Eleusis, he obtains from her the pomegranate of immortality.

The immortal spirit of Antinous does not taste death, and he is given to drink of the fountain that restores memory because he has learned from Orpheus that he is from the Earth but is a Child of the Stars.

Antinous conquers death and returns from darkness. At midnight Antinous the God arises from the Nile and steps onto the shore from which he fell. The spirits of the entourage of Dionysus attend his resurrection and he is reborn as the New Osiris-Dionysus.

In the Religion of Antinous, this is the last day of the Ecclesiastic Year, it is spent in darkness and in solemn devotion.

As Antinous journeys through the underworld, we confront the weakness of being without our god, we reflect on the passage of the year, and on the influence of Antinous upon our lives, and we pray for the triumph of his return.

At midnight, a pure candle is ignited to symbolize the deification of Antinous Our God.

ANTINOUS DIES AS A MORTAL
RISES AS A GOD AT THE FEAST
OF THE BENNU PHOENIX

ON October 28th we commemorate the tragic death of Antinous in the Nile in October 130 AD. October 28th is also the Egyptian Day of Transformation into the Bennu Bird.

This festival is the conclusion of the Mysteries of Osiris ... a festival which Antinous and Hadrian witnessed in Hermopolis during the final days of the mortal life of Antinous.

They had already visited the Shrine of the Bennu (phoenix) Bird in Heliopolis Egypt.

Now in Hermopolis, during the passion play, Antinous and Hadrian see how Isis and Nephthys search for and finally find the body of Osiris.

Then, using the Scroll of Thoth from the sacred library at Hermopolis, Isis raises Osiris from the dead and transforms him into a spirit which can pass from the Underworld into the world of the living.

At the end of the Festival of the Passion of Isis and Osiris, Antinous plunges into the Nile under mysterious circumstances. Grieving Hadrian proclaims him a god ... he is worshiped throughout the Empire as Antinous in the form of Osiris. And Antinous is worshiped as a lunar deity.

There is a spell of Transformation in the Book of the Dead, Chapter 83 (LXXXIII):

I fly up and out of the Primeval Waters
I come into being as the God Kheper
I am the Bennu, the Soul of Ra,
and the guide of the gods in the Tuat.
I become a Shining One,
I am Mighty,
I become sacred among the Gods,
I am the Moon God
who vanquishes all darkness.

The OBELISK OF ANTINOUS speaks of Antinous becoming "a shining one" and also of being full of the "Semen of the First God" which is the creative force of the universe. That means Antinous can assume "any form his heart desires" since he (like Osiris) is one with the First God ... and one with the Bennu Bird.

Antinous IS the Phoenix.

THE DEATH OF ANTINOUS

ON October 28 the Religion of Antinous commemorates The Death of Antinous.

Near the village of Hir-wer, Antinous fell into the Nile and drowned.

There are those who believe that he was murdered, or that he willingly gave himself over to human sacrifice to prolong the life of his beloved Hadrian, or that his death was the suicidal effect of teenage melodrama, or that is was merely an accident, but there is no way to know, no way to be certain.

Grief-stricken Hadrian only said he "plunged into the Nile" but never elaborated on the circumstances of the death of his beloved.

Flamen Antinoalis Antonius Subia says:

We priests of Antinous do not take a definite position and leave the matter as an unknowable mystery. The manner in which Antinous died is not important, only the effect that his death had upon the world has significance.

On this day, we solemnly and silently mourn the Death of Antinous whom Hadrian loved and for whom he wept, and we sorrow for the loss of such great beauty at so young an age.

We pray for the Bithynian boy who died so far from home.

With his death, our religion was set in motion.

We lament and exalt in the grief of Hadrian that was so strong and so powerful that it spread to the whole face of the world, and affects us still today.

We pray also for all those homosexuals who have died in youth as a consequence of repression, we mourn the suicides, and commit them to the soothing arms of Antinous, who was assumed into the Nile for all of us.

It is one of the great ironies of history that, by dying dramatically, a  young person who was unremarkable except for his beauty became irrevocably bound with the most powerful man in the world.

Emperor Hadrian proclaimed Antinous a God. He established a city on the bend of the Nile where the young man died — Antinoopolis.

He named a constellation in the heavens after Antinous.

And without gentle Antinous at his side, Hadrian became an embittered and broken man. He became capricious and at times cruel. A reign which had been marked by Hellenistic principles of tolerance descended into bloodshed.

It is indeed remarkable how one young man, a commoner with no wealth or political influence, changed the course of history simply by dying. And the thousands of statues sculpted on orders of grieving Hadrian became the iconic image of Classical beauty — the last deity of Ancient Greece and Rome.

Antinous fell into the Nile, beneath the swirling waves, but when his body was pulled from the water ... a God emerged. Antinous is our God, he has accomplished the salvation of all lovers of his beauty. His is our salvation. He is Antinous the Gay God. He is the last pagan God of Classical Rome.

For centuries, he was worshiped in secret by gay men who were afraid to worship him publicly. Men such as Oscar Wilde and Walt Whitman sang his praises. When the Nazis marched into the offices of gay-rights advocate Magnus Hirschfeld in Berlin, they smashed a ceramic wall relief of Antinous which Dr. Hirschfeld had set in a place of reverence over the doorway.

And now, in the 21st Century, the "Most Great and Good God" (as he was known among his followers) is being discovered by a whole new generation of people seeking gay spirituality.

We dedicate our lives and our souls to fulfilling the Divine Hadrian's command to establish the Religion of Antinous for all who seek gay spirituality. We dedicate our lives and our souls to serving Antinous the Gay God.
