THE biggest Antinous-related news of 2022 came in November when our spiritual leader ANTONIUS SUBIA made an historic pilgrimage to Berlin, where many of the finest sculptures of Antinous are located in numerous museums. He says:
The Antinous statues in Berlin are unbelievable! I did not expect to see the DAHLEM ANTINOUS, but I spotted it (unlabeled) in a glass display case at the Altes Museum.
Also at the Altes Museum were the Agathodaimon, the Antinous with the palm, the beautiful black marble Grimani Antinous, the giant Polignac bust, a bust of Hadrian and a beautiful bust of Polydeukion.
And then in an obscure cabinet at the Neues Museum, I discovered a small bronze statuette labelled "athlete" but which looks exactly like the Capitoline Antinous.
In the National Portrait Gallery there was a lovely full-sized copy of the Ildefonso group.
It was a serious Antinous overload. (Photos below)
