ANTINOUS IS A GOD
FOR THE 21st CENTURY

By Priest Adriaan van den Berg

THIS is perhaps how Antinous can be seen in a contemporary guise ... Haha it's smart!

I for one certainly don't think Antinous is adverse to being invoked in thoroughly modern senses and contexts. I rather solemnly believe he is manifest in the modern digital world in numerous of ways: in art and literature, in visual media and texts, through statues and books, through the online media and the online presence of his followers.

It is a conspicuous emergence that I trace back to JOHANN JOACHIM WINCKELMANN, the father of archaeology's study of Antinous, since yes, Antinous also visits with and inspires individuals besides treating the sick and assisting the bereaved.

The concept of HOMOTHEOSIS in our religion has brought unity or oneness with Antinous closer to believers. But a visitation that is inspirational in art and work is also another manifestation that can be accomplished via Homotheosis.

There are numerous conduits for Antinous into our lives ... he is just a Click away, online and in so many different sources and forms. The different ways of invoking Antinous is almost an art and competition amongst us ... we inherited no iconoclastic tradition in this faith from our forbearers. So how will and can you invoke him?

Ave Antinous!
ADRIAAN VAN DEN BERG
